A Simple Masala Chai Recipe
Pretty much every morning I make my wife and me some chai. It’s usually just cardamom chai but now and then I’ll make some masala chai. I have had so many people ask me how I make it over the years that I and a friend from church decided to film the process. Please enjoy the video! You’ll find the ingredients list and detailed recipe below!
Recipe:
Total prep and cook time 7-10 min. 2 Servings
Ingredients
1 Cup of Water
2 Cups of Whole Milk
2 Tablespoons of Loose-Leaf Tea (Brook Bond Red Label or Wagh Bakri)
1/8th tsp Black Pepper
4 Cloves (Lightly Crushed)
1/2 oz Fresh Ginger, thinly slices
2 Tablespoons of Sugar
Instructions
Bring 1 Cup of water to a boil. While your water is boiling, break open your cardamom seed pods. Remove seeds and grind to a powder.
Once water is boiling reduce to medium heat and add in loose-leaf tea, caramom, cinnamon, and black pepper. Stir and let simmer for 2 minutes.
While the tea is simmering, lightly crush 4 cloves. After two minutes, add the cloves, ginger, milk, and sugar to the pot. Stir well and heat until bubbles begin to form on the sides of the pan. Do not bring to a boil, as this will burn the milk.
Pour the tea through a strainer into a cup and enjoy warm!
