Red Fort

The Red Fort is located in Old Delhi. It is one of Delhi’s most iconic structures. This Mughal fortress was built by Emperor Shah Jahan between 1639-1648. With the construction of this red sandstone fort, Delhi became the capital of the Mughal Empire. Most evenings there is a Sound and Light show that explains the history of the fort.

Qutab Minar

Along with the Red Fort, the Qutab Minar is also one of Delhi’s most iconic buildings. It is located in south Delhi. The Qutab Minar is the tallest brick minaret in the world and is over 230ft tall. The Qutab Minar’s construction began in the 1100s and was continuously built taller and taller by different rulers. It has five different layers and is covered in carvings of Quranic verse.

Jama Masjid

The Jama Masjid is located in Old Delhi and is one of the largest mosques in India. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 1650s. It can hold roughly 25,000 worshipers at a time. Be sure to dress modestly when visiting.

Humayun’s Tomb

Humayun was the second Mughal Emperor to rule in India. This tomb was built in 1570 and its design was the inspiration for the Taj Mahal in Agra. It is set in a beautiful garden. Humayun’s Tomb in located in Nizamuddin East, near the Nizamuddin Train Station.

India Gate

This is a war memorial for the brave Indian soldiers who fought during for the British in the First World War. It is located in the center of New Delhi on the Rajpath; a famous boulevard lined with trees and gardens that leads to the Rashtrapati Bhavan (the Presidential Palace). The Rajpath is used for major parades.

Dilli Haat

This is a fun attraction full of restaurants and souvenir shopping. Dilli Haat showcases the diversity of India. The vendors of food and wares come from all over the country. Different varieties of food from all across India can be enjoyed a the food court. It is located in south Delhi opposite INA market.

National Museum

This is one of the largest museums in India. The museum seeks to showcase 5000 years of Indian cultural heritage. It is located in central New Delhi near Rajpath and India Gate.

Lodhi Garden

This sprawling garden is a beautiful spot to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. It was built by the British and surrounds the tombs of 15th and 16th century Lodhi’s who ruled northern India before the Mughals. Lodhi Garden is found on Lodhi Road near Khan Market.

Shopping

Delhi is full of unique malls, shopping centers and markets. Some popular markets to find souvenirs or clothing could be Lajpat Nagar, Janpath Market, Sarojini Market, Dilli Haat and Chandni Chowk. But if you are looking for more high end shopping we recommend Khan Market, Connaught Place, Select City Walk Mall and DLF Avenue.
